Introduction to INSPIRE
This part of the GEOPORTAL represents an information channel the aim of which is to inform about the European Directive INSPIRE (INfrastructure for SPatial Information in the European Community) and about the state of its implementation in the Branch of the COSMC (Czech Office of Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre).
What is the INSPIRE? It is an initiative of the European Commission the goal of which is to build up European infrastructure of spatial data. The legal frame for achieving this goal is the EC Directive No 2007/2/EC. This Directive provides common rules for development of the European SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure) mainly for supporting the environmental and other policies influencing the Environment. The European SDI is based on national SDIs of individual Member States, which consist of infrastructures of public administration and of other data providers, who join it. The INSPIRE Directive has been implemented into the Czech legislation by Act No 123/1998 Coll. “on the freedom of access to information on the Environment”. This Act defines also roles and tasks of spatial data providers. The COSMC belongs to the main providers of reference spatial data.
